Tip Of The Day: Bayern Munich v Bordeaux

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009
Bayern Munich’s Italian striker Luca Toni

Bayern Munich’s Italian striker Luca Toni

Bordeaux will travel to Bayern Munich in a confident mood, knowing a win will see them reach the knockout stage of the Champions League and leave their German opponents struggling to progress.

A 2-1 victory at the Stade Chaban-Delmas a fortnight ago took Laurent Blanc’s side to the top of Group A, three points clear of Bayern and two ahead of Juventus.

Another win at the Allianz Arena tonight would ensure Bordeaux secure at least one of the top two positions in the group and leave Bayern to battle it out with Juve for the other.

Toight’s match is a pivotal one in Bayern’s season.

Having drawn 0-0 at Stuttgart on Saturday, the Bavarians have slipped to sixth in the Bundesliga, five points adrift of league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Coach Louis van Gaal knows his side cannot afford any more slip-ups.

“We want to go through so we have got to win,” he said.

The Dutchman will be without the suspended Daniel Van Buyten and Thomas Muller, who both picked up red cards in France.

Since Bayern can’t afford to lose this game, they will be going all out for the win. This may leave them vulnerable to the Bordeaux’s counter attack. I expect it to be a fast attacking game, with goals from both sides.

Tip Of The Day: Arsenal v Liverpool

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009
Arsenal's players William Gallas (right) and Mikael Silvestre are seen during a training session

Arsenal's players William Gallas (right) and Mikael Silvestre are seen during a training session

It might be one of English football’s grand occasions but Wednesday’s League Cup match between Arsenal and Liverpool is likely to reveal more about their future prospects than their current form.

Both Arsene Wenger and Rafael Benitez are likely to make a raft of changes for the game at the Emirates Stadium, mindful of the need to keep their regulars fresh for more pressing priorities in the Premier League and Europe.

In the third round win over West Bromwich Albion, Arsenal’s line-up was composed of players almost exclusively under the age of 21 – Mikael Silvestre and Philippe Senderos were the sole sops to experience – and Wenger has promised to do likewise this week.

“It will be a mixed team but we want to win every single game we play, no matter who plays,” he said.

A player set to strain every sinew at the Emirates is David Ngog, the Liverpool striker whose clinching goal against United last Sunday should earn him a huge ovation from the travelling contingent from Merseyside.

Ngog has fond memories of the League Cup, having scored the winner in the third round tie at Leeds United, and the French striker is seeing the trip to Arsenal as another chance to impress the notoriously demanding Benitez.

“The goal against United was a fantastic moment for me and the team and I would say it’s my best moment in football,” he reflected.

“But now we have Arsenal and we are looking forward to it. All I can do is keep working hard and show what I can do when I get the opportunity. I just want to do my best for the team.”

Tip Of The Day: Chelsea v Blackburn Rovers

Saturday, October 24th, 2009
Chelsea capitan, John Terry

Chelsea capitan, John Terry

Chelsea host Blackburn Rovers having won all their home league fixtures this season, while Rovers have lost all theirs away from Ewood Park.

Chelsea will welcome back Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba.

Drogba was suspended for their midweek Champions League win over Atletico Madrid.

But Jose Bosingwa (knee), and Yury Zhirkov (knee) are out while midfielder John Mikel Obi and defender Alex are not deemed match fit after recovering from injury.

Blackburn have a handful of players battling a virus as they prepare for their trip to Stamford Bridge.

Manager Sam Allardyce has not yet ruled any of the affected players out but will check on them in the morning before deciding on his starting XI.

Striker Franco Di Santo is ineligible to face his parent club, Vince Grella remains sidelined with a thigh injury and Pascal Chimbonda is a doubt with a calf strain.

Considering Chelsea`s home record, and the fact that they need the 3 points to keep the pressure on United before their clash with Liverpool, I can’t see Chelsea slipping up in this game.

Tip Of The Day: CSKA Moscow v Manchester United

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009
Dimitar Berbatov in action against Vfl Wolfsburg

Dimitar Berbatov in action against Vfl Wolfsburg

With Wayne Rooney absent injured, Berbatov could be leading the United line as they take on CSKA Moscow in their Champions League clash in the Russian capital tonight.

“The most dangerous player is Berbatov,” Ramos said. “I worked with him at Tottenham, he is a great player.

“I can’t say how he has adapted to Manchester United but when he is in good form he is absolutely unstoppable.”

CSKA go into the Group B encounter at the Luzhniki Stadium with three points from their two games, three behind unbeaten United.

English champions United are missing a handful of key players, with Ryan Giggs, Darren Fletcher, Patrice Evra and Park Ji-Sung joining Rooney on the sidelines, and face a Premier League trip to rivals Liverpool at the weekend.

The Spaniard said: “Some key players for United will not play but top clubs have not only 11 players, but much more.

“Sir Alex will find adequate reserve players, it is a great squad.”

United top the group with a maximum six points after victories over Besiktas and Wolfsburg.

But despite the team’s healthy position – and their injury concerns and the impending trip to Liverpool – Ferguson insists he will not be settling for a draw.

He said: “I am not a great believer in ‘can afford not to win’. We will try to win and I think that is the incentive for us.”

With all the injures and the prospect of playing in Russia, I dont think an open game would siut United, so my tip of the day would be to bet on Under 2.5 Goals. BET NOW

Tip Of The Day: Az Alkmaar v Arsenal

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009
Arsenal`s Duch striker Robin Van Persie

Arsenal`s Duch striker Robin Van Persie

The Gunners have travelled to Holland for tonight’s Champions League Group H clash against AZ Alkmaar without England forward Theo Walcott, who could be missing for up to a month after suffering knee ligament damage following a hefty challenge by Birmingham defender Liam Ridgewell during Saturday’s Barclays Premier League win.

With two wins already in Group H, the first coming after trailing 2-0 at Standard Liege inside the opening five minutes, Arsenal could all but secure a place in the knockout stages tonight.

Despite their good start the Gunners will be mindful of a 2007 elimination in the Netherlands at PSV Eindhoven, while Alkmaar have lost only one of 34 home encounters in Europe – to Everton in the UEFA Cup in 2007.

My tip of the day would be to back Arsenal with the double chance –  Draw or Arsenal. BET NOW

Tip Of The Day: Fulham vs Hull City

Monday, October 19th, 2009
Hull City`s Jimmy Bullard, poised to make a comeback against his old club.

Hull City`s Jimmy Bullard, poised to make a comeback against his old club.

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has almost a full squad available for his team’s Barclays Premier League match at home to Hull.

Kagisho Dikgacoi will be suspended after being sent off in the 2-2 draw with West Ham.

Fulham currently sit just three places above the relegation zone after a slow start to their season.

They have won just twice this season – once against rock-bottom Portsmouth – a stark contrast to their form at the end of last term, which saw them pull off an unlikely assault on Europa League qualification.

Hull record signing Jimmy Bullard is poised to make his long-awaited comeback in the match at his old club.

The £5million midfielder could play some part at Craven Cottage, almost nine months after suffering a serious knee injury on his Tigers debut.

Hull have won just twice in the Premier League, with the most recent of those coming against Wigan a fortnight ago, confidence has been restored heading into an important three-week spell.

My tip of the day is to go for the Draw. BET NOW

Tip of the day: Simon, G v Djokovic, N

Thursday, October 15th, 2009
Novak Djokovic of Serbia

Novak Djokovic of Serbia

Gilles Simon defeated unseeded Tomas Berdych 6-3 6-4 and entered the quarter-finals in style. The Frenchman established his usual defensive approach and waited for the Czech to make a wrong step. Simon has a solid return and won 44% of his total return points breaking his opponent serve three times out of six attempts.

Novak Djokovic cruised into the quarter-finals after 6-4 6-2 against Rainer Schuettler of Germany. He dropped 14 points on serve and hit five aces to win 71% of his total points on serve. The Serbian was too strong for the 33-year-old Schuettler and dominated the majority of baseline exchanges.

Djokovic will meet Gilles Simon for the fifth time after winning the last three meetings.  My tip of the day is to back Djokovic to win this game.  BET NOW

Tip of the day: Rafael Nadal v James Blake

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009
Rafael Nadal of Spain

Rafael Nadal of Spain

Blake faced Karlovic in the first round and after a shaky start he managed to wear out his opponent and finally get two break of his serve in the decider. The American is a powerful player who relies on his serve and forehand. He likes fast surfaces and has huge experience on hard courts. His form is not the best at the moment and he lost to Nadal last week in Beijing. The Spaniard was in control for most of the match in the Olympic capital, but failed to serve it out twice and made things difficult for himself.

Nadal is well known for his defensive retrieving and top spin shots. The surface in Shanghai is supposed to be faster than Beijing and that should favour Blake, but the American is not very consistent of the ground and heavily relies on his confidence. That is the reason he often gets outplayed if his opponent knows how to handle him and Nadal obviously knows.

My Tip of the day is to back Nadal to win this match. Bet Now

Tip of the day: Viktor Troicki v Novak Djokovic

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009
Novak Djokovic from Serbia

Novak Djokovic from Serbia

Troicki backed his good performance in Bangkok with a victory over Fognini. He did well to come back in the first set and then never looked back. He served very well and got 10 aces and 70% of the points on serve won. He is a powerful player with attacking game and big ground strokes. He should be a bit tired now though and he looked like being tired in the closing stages against the Italian. Djokovic started well against Hanescu and also fired 10 aces. He was very solid and dangerous on the ground. He just ripped the powerful serve of his opponent apart and won 52% of the points on return. The Serbian is one of the best returners in the game. He has very good ground strokes with a lot of power and the ability to make winners off both wings. Troicki is the more explosive player with bigger serve and more aggressive game, but Djokovic has the edge on the ground and his game is more patient and controlled. The surface here is not very fast which will favour Djokovic and Troicki should be tired so we do not see him taking another victory here.

Tip of the day: Aston Villa v Manchester City

Monday, October 5th, 2009
Manchester City's Togolese striker Emmanuel Abebayor celebrates after scoring the opening goal of the English Premier League.

Manchester City's Togolese striker Emmanuel Abebayor celebrates after scoring the opening goal of the English Premier League.

Aston Villa midfielder Steve Sidwell is back in contention after injury for the home Barclays Premier League clash with Manchester City tonight.

Villa boss Martin O’Neill has no fresh injury worries as he prepares to welcome back Gareth Barry, who spent 12 years at Villa before his £12million summer move to Eastlands. Former City skipper Richard Dunne will face his old team-mates for the first time since his £6million switch to Villa in August.

Emmanuel Adebayor and Stephen Ireland will return for City.

After completing a three-match ban Adebayor has been cleared to play after escaping an FA misconduct charge with a £25,000 fine following his controversial goal celebration against Arsenal last month.

Ireland has recovered from a sickness bug and he should also be involved.
